Chief Little Raven Museum

ARCH 2121 - UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO DENVER

2022

The Chief Little Raven Museum in Commons Park utilizes Denver's most vital green space by providing a structure that acknowledges and celebrates the city's rich Indigenous culture. Sitting on the corner of Little Raven Street & 18th Street, the museum serves as a space of reflection as well as a sanctuary from the dense urban surroundings.

Structural Philosophy

Engulfed among the trees, the structure’s facades are intentionally designed with an acicular finish to resemble a teepee. A combination of tempered and channel glass divided by an oak slatted wall, the museum’s relationship to light produces an important narrative surrounding the significance of Native American history in Colorado.

Within the west wing, the first two floors serve as open gallery spaces for Native American artifacts, while the east wing provides resources that support present Native American efforts. Connecting the two sections is an underground passage that exhibits  context about atrocities that the Natives faced throughout their history of Colorado’s settlement.
